2024 Thistledown, Grenache "Sands of Time", Blewitt Springs
The winemaking is as thoughtful as the vineyard: fermentation in concrete, followed by aging in seasoned oak and concrete for 10 months. The result is a wine of remarkable concentration without heaviness, lower alcohol than many Rhône cuvées, and tannins so fine they glide effortlessly across the palate. It drinks beautifully with a short decant today, yet has the structure and finesse to evolve gracefully for another decade.
In the glass, it’s a dark-saturated stunner: exotic spicebox, tobacco, licorice, and leather riding on waves of dark raspberry and black cherry fruit. The finish is long, savory, and dusted with powdery tannins. This is Australia’s grand cru Grenache, a wine that will thrill collectors and Rhône devotees alike.
