Roagna is one of the most deservedly legendary estates to have mastered the complex terroirs of Barolo and Barbaresco.  With the release of each vintage, the global wine press reliably lavishes praise on the family while the bottles disappear immediately into the cold cellars of the world’s top restaurants. Even today, allocations are distributed to restaurants across the country before retailers can secure access.

We were fortunate to get a few bottles of their Rocche di Castiglione where their new Barolo winery is located, as well as their village designation bottling. The winemaker and umpteenth-generation head of the estate, Luca Roagna, is dedicated to organic farming and to producing extraordinarily age-worthy single-vineyard wines. Alongside Cappellano and Conterno, wine professionals regard Roagna as one of the top three or four truly traditional producers in the region. 

The 2019 vintage is particularly outstanding! From the village Barolo DOCG to the single crus, the wines are approachable in their youth with about an hour of decanting. Yet, they are impeccably structured to age gracefully for 15 to 20 years. Roagna is an essential name for serious Piemonte collectors, and these bottles are set to impress, backed by glowing Wine Advocate acclaim.
