2022 Grosjean, Metodo Classico Rosé "Montmary"

The Grosjean family’s winemaking roots trace back to the village of Fornet in the high mountain passes of Valle d’Aosta, where they originally raised cattle and cultivated chestnuts and grapes. The country’s smallest and most mountainous region is located in the far northwest, where the Alps meet the borders of France and Switzerland, just beyond the Jura. Vineyards climb the thin, rocky slopes, benefitting from the warm, dry summers and cool nights. The area’s unique cultural blend is reflected in its mix of Italian and French influences, both in language and grape varieties, creating a rich, diverse terroir. Winemaking began in earnest in 1969 when Dauphin Grosjean began showcasing his bottled wines at local expositions. Today, the estate is run by his five sons and the wines are a true reflection of Valle d’Aosta’s unique cultural blend, with both Italian and French influences.

Grosjean’s Montmary Classico Rosé is made by pressing whole clusters and allowing a brief maceration before fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures with selected yeasts. The wine ages in stainless steel at cold temperatures, preserving its freshness. After the second fermentation in January, it spends 15 to 18 months on the lees, developing complexity and texture. Finally, the wine is disgorged, resulting in a crisp, vibrant sparkling rosé.

Grosjean’s 2022 Montmary Classico Rosé is a vibrant, lively sparkler with bright strawberry fruit and crisp minerality. This cheery pink wine layers fresh berry notes with hints of honeyed citrus, brioche, and a touch of spice. Bone dry and refreshingly crisp, it boasts an elegant but persistent mousse. A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, it’s a versatile, food-friendly, bubbly rosé that delivers surprising depth and texture.
