Castellinuzza e Piuca, Chianti Classico

This jewel-box organic farm is nestled in the hills of Lamole, which boasts some of the highest-elevation vineyards (450-550 meters) in the Chianti Classico DOCG. Owner Simone Coccia and family work their 10 hectares organically and craft their wines in the most traditional and natural manner possible. This is one of the most soulful, authentic expressions of Chianti Classico you could ask for—aged only in concrete tanks, and dripping with brambly black cherry fruit, this isn’t a flashy “modern” Chianti wearing lots of makeup; this is Old School wine made cleanly and with the traditional local varieties: Sangiovese (90%) and Canaiolo. This 2018 is showing some power along with its textbook perfume, approaching Brunello di Montalcino levels of concentration.

Italy

Northwestern Italy

Piedmont

Italy’s Piedmont region is really a wine “nation”unto itself, producing world-class renditions of every type of wine imaginable: red, white, sparkling, sweet...you name it! However, many wine lovers fixate on the region’s most famous appellations—Barolo and Barbaresco—and the inimitable native red that powers these wines:Nebbiolo.

Tuscany

Chianti

The area known as “Chianti” covers a major chunk of Central Tuscany, from Pisa to Florence to Siena to Arezzo—and beyond. Any wine with “Chianti” in its name is going to contain somewhere between 70% to 100% Sangiovese, and there are eight geographically specific sub-regions under the broader Chianti umbrella.
