Give the gift of our Somm 6 club without the commitment!

The SommSelect team tastes hundreds of wines each month, but only six are chosen for our Somm 6 club subscription. Our main criteria? That they be the wines we most want to take home for ourselves.

Somm 6 is for wine lovers who crave variety and new sensations. It’s also for anyone who appreciates authenticity and value. Our expert team curates a diverse selection of artisanal wines, provides detailed information on each bottle, then ships the whole package right to your door.

This one-time Gift Pack option is a great choice for the curious connoisseur in your life. Here’s what’s in the box*:

Terenzuola, Colli di Luni Vermentino “Vigne Basse” 2020
Tuscany, Italy 2020

Ivan Giuliani’s winery and vineyards in the Colli di Luni are in Fosdinovo, in the foothills of the Apuan Alps right on the Tuscany/Liguria border. “Vigne Basse” contains 95% Vermentino with a dash of Albarola, another local white, fermented using indigenous yeasts and allowed a brief period of contact with the skins (24-48 hours) during primary fermentation. It is aged on its lees for six months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. The wine is medium yellow-gold with flecks of green, with fresh aromas of yellow peach, green mango and melon, mint, eucalyptus, sea salt, and herbs.

Compañía de Vinos Tricó, Rías Baixas Albariño “Tabla de Sumar”
Galicia, Spain 2020

Primo Albariño! Tricó’s 10 hectares of vineyards are in the Condado do Tea subzone of Rías Baixas, a mountainous area right on the Miño River, along the Portuguese border. This is the most “southerly” and “inland” of the five Rías Baixas subzones, but the ocean influence and granitic minerality are both readily evident in the wine.

Keermont, “Terrasse” White Blend
Stellenbosch, South Africa 2018

“Terrasse” relies heavily on Chenin Blanc, although it also blends in Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a splash of Viognier. Harvest is carried out by hand, and back in the cellar, each meticulously sorted parcel is vinified separately with indigenous, airborne yeasts. Upon completion, the wine remains in barrel for another 12 months. The wine displays a vivid yellow core and instantly unleashes powerful, exotic, complex aromatics. Even without a decant, you’ll uncover notes of Kaffir lime leaf, lemon curd, apricot, white nectarine, green/yellow apple, wildflowers, lees, honeysuckle, vanilla bean, lemongrass, and wild herbs.

Domaine Rolet, Arbois Trousseau
Jura, France 2018

This soft, floral, featherweight red is 100% Trousseau from 40-year-old vines planted at altitudes ranging from 240-380 meters. The soils are a mix of clay and limestone gravel. The wine is fermented spontaneously using only ambient yeasts, and whole grape clusters are incorporated to lend some “cut” and spice. It is aged for about a yeat in large, old foudre casks before bottling.

Domaine des Pierres Séches (Sylvain Gauthier), Saint-Joseph Rouge
Rhône Valley, France 2018

Sourced from old-vine parcels (10-50 years) in the communes of Sarras, Vion, and Arras-Sur-Rhône, this ’18 was mostly destemmed (90%) before fermentation in stainless steel using ambient yeasts. It was aged only in used French oak barrels and bottled with minimal sulfur, but as always, flawlessness and varietal purity are the calling cards. Deep ruby-black with purple reflections, with aromas of black raspberry, purple plums, and goji berry followed by a savory wave of licorice, baking spices, pepper, soy, and crushed stones.

La Serena, Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy 2016

The La Serena Brunello begins fermentation in stainless steel tanks and is then transferred to large wood casks of 30- to 40-hectoliter capacity to complete malolactic fermentation. Their aging regimen for their Brunello is three years in 20-hectoliter French oak barrels (and larger vessels), followed by further bottle aging before release, as is standard in Montalcino. A concentrated ruby/garnet extending to the rim, with explosive aromas of black cherry, red and black plums, blood orange, leather, cedar, bay leaf, espresso grounds, and underbrush.
