Kloof Street, Old-Vine Chenin Blanc

From three sustainably farmed vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland: One parcel of 40-year-old Chenin planted in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of Kasteelberg, and two parcels of 40+ year-old dry land, bush vine Chenin grown in the decomposed granite soils of the Paardeberg.

The Mullineuxs hit a home run with this Chenin Blanc that only gets better with age. This effort is an amazing expression of this grape varietal. The wine has a medium straw yellow to the green core and golden reflections on the rim. The nose is bright, powerful, and mineral-driven, showing notes of lemongrass, freshly cut yellow apples, lemon peel, honey, and green melon peel. The palate has an amazing concentration, rich texture, and a fine minerality driving the finish which seems to be never-ending.

Southwestern South Africa

Swartland

South Africa’s magnificent Western Cape, and specifically the Swartland appellation, is another rich mosaic of soil types, including sands of decomposed granite from the nearby Paardeberg Mountains. Dramatic day-night temperature swings in the region help preserve acidity and
moderate alcohol.
