The Romero-Marcuzzi family founded their El Porvenir estate in 2000, cobbling together an assortment of heirloom family vineyards near the town of Cafayate, in the northerly Salta region. One of the signatures of this high-altitude growing zone is varietal white wine from the exotically aromatic Torrontes grape—kind of an Argentine answer to Viognier, albeit with racier acidity. The extremely floral and tropical nose is ripe with a high intensity of aromatics led by mango, papaya, yellow peach, pear and orange blossoms with secondary notes of honeysuckle, rose water, lemon verbena, and delicate accents of white pepper. These wines make great conversation-piece aperitifs, and pair well with highly aromatic/spicy Thai, Indian, or Chinese preparations.
