Master Selection: 6 Bottle Riesling Experience

Embark on a definitive journey through the world of Riesling with this Master Selection Collection. Curated to showcase the incredible diversity of the world's most noble white grape, this collection spans continents, styles, and terroirs. From sparkling Sekt to iconic dry expressions and the pinnacle of German Grand Cru, this is a comprehensive exploration of Riesling's magic.

2020 Von Buhl, Riesling Sekt Brut - The Sparkling Start

Our journey begins with a celebration of Riesling's sparkling side. This Sekt (sparkling wine) from the prestigious Von Buhl estate in the Pfalz is made in the traditional method, just like Champagne. It's a vibrant and refreshing introduction to the grape, with its notes of green apple, citrus, and a hint of brioche. The high acidity of Riesling makes it a perfect candidate for sparkling wine, and this bottle proves it.

2024 Grosset, Riesling "Polish Hill", Clare ValleyThe New World Icon

Next, we travel to the Southern Hemisphere to taste a true icon of Australian wine. Grosset's "Polish Hill" is one of the most famous Rieslings in the world, known for its incredible intensity and age-worthiness. From the slate soils of the Clare Valley, this wine is bone-dry, with laser-like acidity and powerful notes of lime, lemon, and a distinctive mineral core. It's a wine that shatters any preconceived notions about Australian Riesling.

2018 Bruno by Karthauserhof, Riesling Spatlese - The Off-Dry Classic

Now, we return to Germany to explore Riesling's magical ability to balance sweetness and acidity. This Spatlese (late harvest) from the historic Karthauserhof estate in the Mosel is a perfect example of the classic off-dry style. The grapes are picked later in the season to develop more flavor and sugar, but the wine's vibrant acidity keeps it from being cloying. Expect notes of ripe peach, honey, and a touch of tropical fruit, all balanced by a mouthwatering finish.

2016 Wwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Thanisch, Riesling "Bernkasteler Graben" Grosses Gewächs - The Mosel Grand Cru

Our first of two Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) bottlings takes us to the legendary Bernkasteler Graben vineyard in the Mosel. From the iconic Dr. H. Thanisch estate, this is a wine of incredible elegance and finesse. The steep, slate slopes of the Mosel produce Rieslings with a delicate, filigreed structure, and this wine is no exception. With several years of bottle age, it's beginning to show complex notes of petrol, beeswax, and dried herbs, all layered over a core of intense minerality.

2021 Reichsrat von Buhl, Riesling "Pechstein" Grosses Gewächs - The Pfalz Powerhouse

Next, we travel to the Pfalz to taste a GG from a completely different terroir. The "Pechstein" vineyard is known for its black basalt soils, which produce Rieslings of incredible power and intensity. This bottling from Reichsrat von Buhl is a powerhouse, with its notes of ripe stone fruit, exotic spices, and a smoky, volcanic minerality. It's a wine that showcases the raw power and potential of German Riesling.

2020 Marc Tempé, Riesling Grand Cru "Mambourg" - The Alsatian Finale

We conclude our journey in the French region of Alsace, where Riesling takes on a richer, more textural style. This Grand Cru "Mambourg" from the biodynamic wizard Marc Tempé is a stunning example. The warmer climate of Alsace produces a wine with a fuller body and notes of ripe pear, quince, and a hint of ginger. It's a wine that showcases the gastronomic side of Riesling, a perfect pairing for rich, flavorful dishes.
