Vignalta 'Marrano', Veneto Rosso IGT

After years of tasting quality Bordeaux wines, Lucio Gomiero felt inspired to produce wines of similar caliber in his native land. Due to the fact that Colli Euganei shares the same latitude and soil composition as Bordeaux, varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot have thrived on his estate. The Marrano is on par with Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion for a fraction of the price. The 2012 has equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot selected from Lucio's best barrels. The wine displays more refinement and elegance than most Bolgheri Rossos that retail for twice the price. With the extra bottle age, the bouquet has fully developed after an hour decant. A bevy of dark morello cherry and blackberry fruit rises from the glass with hints of heady pink peppercorns, vanilla, and holiday baking spices. One harmonious package showcasing silky, well-integrated tannins on the finish. Elevate the experience with a simple seared lamb chop or steak preparation.

Italy

Northwestern Italy

Piedmont

Italy’s Piedmont region is really a wine “nation”unto itself, producing world-class renditions of every type of wine imaginable: red, white, sparkling, sweet...you name it! However, many wine lovers fixate on the region’s most famous appellations—Barolo and Barbaresco—and the inimitable native red that powers these wines:Nebbiolo.

Tuscany

Chianti

The area known as “Chianti” covers a major chunk of Central Tuscany, from Pisa to Florence to Siena to Arezzo—and beyond. Any wine with “Chianti” in its name is going to contain somewhere between 70% to 100% Sangiovese, and there are eight geographically specific sub-regions under the broader Chianti umbrella.
