Remoissenet Père et Fils, Ladoix 1er Cru “Les Gréchons”

Fellow Burgundy geeks, break out your vineyard maps and behold one of the most undervalued, “trivia-question” white Burgundies in Remoissenet’s lineup. Today we ascend the Corton hill on its easternmost flank, above the sleeper village of Ladoix, and into its Premier Cru “Les Gréchons.” This is a wine that requires a little digging, but once you realize what you’ve got, it’s the equivalent of buried treasure. Perched at the top of the slope, Les Gréchons is virtually an extension of Grand Crus Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. It produces Chardonnay of such opulence it could easily be mistaken for its vastly more expensive neighbor. 

Remoissenet’s manually harvested fruit is pressed whole cluster into a mixture of 228- and 342-liter barrels (40% new) where it undergoes a spontaneous fermentation. The resulting wine continues aging in these barrels until bottling and further rest in their cellars before release.
