Roberto Voerzio 'Fossati Case Nere' Riserva 10 Anni, Barolo

Roberto Voerzio wines should never be rushed, as they require at least five years in bottle before revealing their true soul. His lineup of Barolo crus are emphatically suave, concentrated, and textured in nature. Voerzio is fanatical in the vineyards, keeping yields extremely low through green harvesting. In certain cases, only five grape clusters are left per plant. These tight-fisted clusters represent Nebbiolo’s most concentrated, aromatic, and richly flavored berries. The “Fossati Case Nere” is held back for 10 years before release, and one can easily tuck it away for another 10+ years. This bottling is not released every year since it depends on the quality and if it meets personal quality standards. We’re fortunate enough to score a few six-packs of the 2008 and 2009 releases.


This effort is a real head-turner! Gorgeous Nebbiolo that is both weightless and gracious on the palate. High-tone energy is defined by crushed minerals and mouthwatering acidity. Start with the captivating nose of crushed rose petals, sandalwood, and lavender. Black cherries and dried strawberries jump out of the glass with subtle nuances of licorice, menthol, and pine. Layered, delineated, and striking in its beauty. With the added time of bottle age, the wine is polished with silky tannins revealed once the wine is decanted for an hour plus. Elevate the experience with a braised lamb preparation.
