Alberici “Casalone” Lambrusco dell’Emilia Rosso

This is all about is bright, mineral, low-alcohol refreshment, along with unparalleled versatility with food. Although Lambrusco’s delicate effervescence (derived either from re-fermentation in bottle or larger tanks) makes it a great choice for an apéritif, this wine’s true calling is as a partner to food—first and foremost the salumi and cheeses that have made Emilia-Romagna world-famous, but also pizza, pasta, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Lots of fat-cutting acidity and a delicate nip of tannin are this wine’s aces in the hole, along with its modest (11%) alcohol content.

We’re talking “farmer’s fizz” here. Amilcare Alberici is a true farmer at heart, With his daughter, Arianna by her side, they craft fully organic, small production efforts with a ton of heart and soul. This is traditionally styled Lambrusco incorporating mostly Lambrusco Salamino and a small percentage of Ancellotta which is rarely seen in Emilia-Romagna. This bottling will appeal to newbies and discerning palates of the category alike. Best to enjoy with a slight chill. The “Casalone” emits a brilliant ruby hue with an opulent violet foam. The nose is effervescent, playful with plenty of purple and black fruits laced with violets and dried rose petals. Plenty of dark plum and black currant dance on the palate with hints of licorice, ink, menthol, and coffee. There’s a hint of flinty minerality with a medicinal quality that aids in better digestion. Hard to put this one down with its mass appeal and relatively low alcohol content. Lovers of Lambrusco should stock up on this new find!

Italy

Northwestern Italy

Piedmont

Italy’s Piedmont region is really a wine “nation”unto itself, producing world-class renditions of every type of wine imaginable: red, white, sparkling, sweet...you name it! However, many wine lovers fixate on the region’s most famous appellations—Barolo and Barbaresco—and the inimitable native red that powers these wines:Nebbiolo.

Tuscany

Chianti

The area known as “Chianti” covers a major chunk of Central Tuscany, from Pisa to Florence to Siena to Arezzo—and beyond. Any wine with “Chianti” in its name is going to contain somewhere between 70% to 100% Sangiovese, and there are eight geographically specific sub-regions under the broader Chianti umbrella.
