Domaine des Accoles “Le Rendez-vous des Acolytes” Grenache

Prior to establishing Domaine de Accoles, winemaker Olivier Leriche spent 13 years at Domaine de l’Arlot in Burgundy’s Nuits-Saint-Georges. He was instrumental in turning this famed Burgundy house to biodynamic farming. Olivier and his wife, Florence decided to head back to their home in the Ardèche to purchase just over 40 acres of Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. The couple's first goal was to convert the farming to fully organic and biodynamic principles. This is not the norm for a region snubbed upon for world-class grape growing. Although not customary to the Rhône winemaking tradition, Olivier harvests early in order to stay true to his winemaking philosophy acquired from his days spent in Burgundy. The result is more approachable wines with lower alcohol levels. This “Le Rendez-vous des Acolytes” bottling weighs in at 14% while most Chateauneuf du Pape any other satellite Côtes du Rhône Villages wine easily tip 15%. One taste and you’re taking a virtual hike through the slopes of Ardèche. A Mediterranean breeze of wild violets, lavender, and shattered granite notes meet a core of densely layered black fruits. This is not a manly, meaty red, but liquid seduction at an attractive price. We highly recommend letting this wine open in a glass or decanter for at least 30 to 45-minutes before enjoying it. Best to serve at a crisp 55 to 60 degrees to take on its full allure and spice spectrum. Cheers!

France

Bourgogne

Beaujolais

Enjoying the greatest wines of Beaujolais starts, as it usually does, with the lay of the land. In Beaujolais, 10 localities have been given their own AOC (Appellation of Controlled Origin) designation. They are: Saint Amour; Juliénas; Chénas; Moulin-à Vent; Fleurie; Chiroubles; Morgon; Régnié; Côte de Brouilly; and Brouilly.

Southwestern France

Bordeaux

Bordeaux surrounds two rivers, the Dordogne and Garonne, which intersect north of the city of Bordeaux to form the Gironde Estuary, which empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The region is at the 45th parallel (California’s Napa Valley is at the38th), with a mild, Atlantic-influenced climate enabling the maturation of late-ripening varieties.

Central France

Loire Valley

The Loire is France’s longest river (634 miles), originating in the southerly Cévennes Mountains, flowing north towards Paris, then curving westward and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean near Nantes. The Loire and its tributaries cover a huge swath of central France, with most of the wine appellations on an east-west stretch at47 degrees north (the same latitude as Burgundy).

Northeastern France

Alsace

Alsace, in Northeastern France, is one of the most geologically diverse wine regions in the world, with vineyards running from the foothills of theVosges Mountains down to the Rhine River Valley below.
