The La Gardiole climat in northern Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with its sweeping bed of river rocks and ancient vines, is just south of the legendary Château de Beaucastel. The Rey family culls their 50+ year old vines here, near their 16th century farmhouse, to create this cuvée.

The vines are farmed organically, and the new wine is given a cool ferment (77°F) to preserve fruity esters and freshness, then raised exclusively in concrete tanks (à la Domaine Charvin), so there's nothing to get between you and the pure raspberry and blackberry fruit and earthy truffles that emanate from the glass. The Reys nailed the cool 2021 vintage, offering a wine with superb richness and focus.
