Viña Elena is a respected family winery deeply rooted in Jumilla’s history, dedicated to producing elegant, site-specific Monastrell wines with a balance of tradition and modern style. Their 2022 Bruma del Estrecho "Finca CQ" highlights the high-elevation, chalky soils, and extreme climate of Jumilla with concentrated vibrant red fruit, savory complexity, and balanced freshness. 

The "Finca CQ" refers to Finca Quemada, a northwest-facing vineyard at about 700 meters elevation with chalky, sandy, and semi-arid soils rich in stones. These stressed old vines, often self-rooted (pie franco), are dry-farmed in harsh, arid conditions, producing concentrated fruit. 

Viña Elena is a historic, family-owned winery located in the Jumilla region of northeastern Murcia, Spain. It was founded in 1948 by Francisco Pacheco Pérez, beginning as a modest home-based operation. Today, the winery is managed by the third and fourth generations of the Pacheco family, with Elena Pacheco, the granddaughter of the founder, serving as CEO and guiding the winery’s modern vision. 

The winemaking includes manual harvest, cold soaking, and fermentation with local yeasts using some whole clusters. The wine is aged approximately 10-12 months in 500L second-year French oak barrels, which contribute subtle oak nuances without overshadowing the natural grape character.

This is a vibrant and expressive wine with a juicy, well-balanced palate. The bouquet is fruit-driven, with aromas and flavors of strawberries and cherries, complemented by subtle plum, rosemary, and savory herbal notes. It has a delicate yet powerful character, with a long, lingering finish.
