The Walls Vineyards was founded by Mike Martin, with inspiration drawn from the region's terroir and history. They farm three estate vineyards with the fruit for Bellamy coming from the River Rock and Rockgarden vineyards. These vineyards are noted for distinctive rocky soils, consisting of basalt cobblestones and decomposed granite, which provide excellent heat retention and drainage, favorable for Rhône and Bordeaux varietals alike.
The Walls Vineyards was founded by Mike Martin, with inspiration drawn from the region's terroir and history. The 2021 Bellamy was crafted by Rob Newsom, a well-respected, multitalented winemaker in Washington State known for producing some of the Northwest's best handcrafted wines. He earned the title of “Best New Winemaker” by Seattle Magazine in 2007, and during his time at The Walls, he raised the profile and quality of their signature Bordeaux-style blends.
This wine is composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (about 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot). The winemaking approach includes gentle handling of fruit, with fermentation occurring in concrete and stainless steel tanks to preserve purity and freshness. Aging occurs in large format, neutral oak vessels which keeps the oak influence subtle and allows the terroir to shine
On the nose, Bellamy offers rich aromas of wild blackberry, black tea, and savory herbaceous notes, with hints of saline minerality adding complexity. The palate is refined and full-bodied, showing serious weight, layered black fruit flavors, and spicy undertones. It has a firm tannic structure balanced by fresh acidity and a long, elegant finish marked by subtle licorice and a savory, salty character.
