The Reelegido Vineyard is located in Isla Maipo, a subzone of Alto Maipo, Chile and sits at an elevation of approximately 1000 meters above sea level. The vineyard is planted in alluvial soils rich in volcanic rock and round stones that provide excellent drainage. Warm days and cool nights promote a longer growing season with balanced ripening and complete phenolic development in its Cabernet Sauvignon.
Garage Wine Co. was founded in 2003 by the husband and wife team Derek Mossman-Knapp and Pilar Miranda who began making wine in their garage and sourcing fruit from small parcels of old vines across Chile. Their goal was to tell a different story about Chilean wine by focusing on artisanal, small-lot production and sustainable farming practices. Since that time, Garage Wine Co. has also been hyper focused on revitalizing neglected old vines and empowering and employing the workers who tend them
Hand-harvested and fermented naturally in open conical lager fermenters with manual punchdowns occurring three times per day to preserve texture and complexity. After fermentation, the wine was racked and aged for two years in very old (neutral) french barrels sourced from various cooperages in order to focus on enhancing balance, elegance and grape purity rather than additional tannin and flavor influence from newer oak.
Aromas of black currant, dark cherry, and plum along with black pepper spice, graphite and dried thyme. The mouthfeel is creamy and balanced with finely grained tannins that support ripe, dark fruit and vibrant acidity. Additional layers of savory tones, tobacco leaf, balsamic and earth. Smooth yet balanced with a firm structure and a lingering smoky, dark fruited finish.
