Familia Furlotti is one of the oldest wineries in the Maipú region of Mendoza, Argentina. Founded in 1914, it’s among the pioneering estates that helped establish the region’s reputation for quality wine production.
This Malbec is from the Finca Lunlunta vineyard, planted in the 1970s at 930, in Maipú, Mendoza and sits at almost 1000 meters above sea level. Soils here are a mix of well draining alluvial along with silt and limestone. Top soils are shallow with stony subsoil. Maipú’s dry climate and diurnal temperature swings contribute in producing small, concentrated grapes with vibrant acidity and layers complexity.
Founded in 1914 by Ángel Furlotti (who emigrated from Italy), Bodega Familia Furlotti is a family winery that has established itself through four continuous generations of winemaking tradition in Mendoza. Gabriela Furlotti, Ángel’s great-granddaughter, took over the winery operations in 2014, exactly 100 years after it was established, and has since revitalized the family’s century-old vineyards, including their historic estate, Finca Adalgisa, transforming it into a boutique hotel and winery.
Hand-harvested and brought back to the cellar to cold-soak for 4 days to preserve color and aromatics before processing. Fermentation was inoculated via native yeasts and the wine underwent a controlled and extended maceration for 12 days for tannin development. After fermentation, the wine was racked and aged in French oak barrels (30% new) for 8 months prior to bottling.
Rich aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and dark cherries layered with earthy tones, vanilla, cinnamon and pepper spice. The palate is full-bodied and velvety with dark berries and layers of dark chocolate, tobacco and leather with subtle hints of sandalwood and vanilla. Firm, polished tannins and minerality are in balance with juicy acidity that leads to a lingering, elegant finish.
