A worldwide exclusive for SommSelect, Carlo Boffa’s 2015 Barbaresco shocked our team with its haunting, rose-laden, truffly Nebbiolo musk. It doesn’t seem possible: the going rate for a perfectly mature, 10-year old, cellar-direct Barbaresco from the near-perfect 2015 vintage is $70-$300+. We’ve got it for $45. The last 22 cases in America are not nearly enough to go around. This one won’t last long.
Pietro Boffa had a vision 57 years ago and today his son Carlo and grandson Gabriele—working just across the Via Torino from Angelo Gaja—work their prestigious crus: Ronchi and Cavanna and craft their wine from 21-35 year old vines in traditional 25 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels. Less than 1,000 cases produced, and most production goes to fine dining restaurants in the Langhe—which explains why it’s impossible to find.
Why You'll Love it:
- This wine is a knock out for lovers of traditionally-made, artisan Barbaresco. An exceptional combination of maturity, quality, and value that is hard to find anywhere.
-Fresh and lively, brimming with scents of fresh and dried strawberries, red cherry, rosewater, and white truffles. Sappy and satisfying, it's all right here.
-This 2015 Barbaresco is ready to drink now but will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 5-10 years
How to Serve It:
-Decant for 1 hour and serve in red Burgundy glassware at a temperature between 64-68°F
-Pair with traditional Piedmontese dishes like Risotto al tartufo bianco or agnolotti or braised and roasted meats like veal, lamb and wild boar.
