2021 Far Mountain, Cabernet Sauvignon "Fission", Moon Mountain District, Sonoma County

We're all in on Far Mountain Wines, a relatively new winery founded by Chilean winemaker Rodrigo Soto and his wife Mai Errazuriz in 2018. Located in the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma County, Far Mountain focuses on producing wines that express the unique terroirs of high-elevation, dry-farmed vineyards. The vineyards are characterized by rocky, volcanic soils on steep slopes, with elevations ranging from 900 to 1,600 feet above sea level. These conditions promote slow, even ripening and concentrated fruit development, resulting in complex, age-worthy wines with notable mineral and volcanic influence.

The "Fission" vineyard site is notable for its heritage clones planted on well-drained volcanic rock with iron-rich soils, contributing to the wine’s distinctive structure and vibrant acidity. Far Mountain combines biodynamic and organic farming principles with minimal intervention winemaking, emphasizing balance between power and finesse. The collaboration of Soto’s Chilean natural wine expertise with Sonoma’s terroir-driven traditions produces Cabernet Sauvignons that are both expressive and elegant, embodying the rugged character of Moon Mountain while maintaining silky texture and complexity.

Why You'll Love It

  • Powerful yet elegant, with a dynamic balance of ripe dark fruit and vibrant mineral tension.

  • Crafted with biodynamic and organic principles for authentic expression of terroir.

  • Decant for an hour to allow the wine’s full aromatic and textural potential to unfold.

  • Ideal with grilled or roasted red meats, game, or rich mushroom dishes for a perfect pairing.
