2023 Château de la Font du Loup, "Le Puy Rolland" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

From one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s highest-elevation, north-facing parcels behind La Crau, the 2023 Château de la Font du Loup “Le Puy Rolland” exudes elegance and restraint. Crafted by Anne-Charlotte Mélia-Bachas and her team, this 100% Grenache is sourced from 110-year-old vines rooted in beach-like sandy soils—delivering purity, finesse, and freshness that rival the legendary Château Rayas at a fraction of the price.

With each release, we spotlight this wine for its radiant aromatics and high-toned fruit—qualities that distinguish it from the more muscular expressions of Beaucastel and Vieux Télégraphe, both of which also reside in La Crau. “Le Puy Rolland” speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression: graceful, layered, and unmistakably Font du Loup.

Organically farmed and vinified with a light touch in neutral foudres, the wine bursts with wild raspberry, brandied cherry, crushed stone, and herbes de Provence. It’s full-bodied yet never heavy, with a silky texture and aromatic lift that deepens beautifully over time. Grown in one of the most prized crus of La Crau, this is a wine destined to become a cellar treasure.

What sets “Le Puy Rolland” apart is its ability to balance richness with restraint. While many Grenache-based wines lean into power and ripeness, this bottling remains poised—thanks to its cool microclimate and meticulous organic farming. The estate’s legendary spring, once a watering hole for wolves migrating from Mont Ventoux, still flows beside the rose-colored château, a symbol of the timeless energy that infuses the wine. With each vintage, Anne-Charlotte and Laurent push for purity over polish, crafting wines that speak of place, history, and quiet confidence. This is not just a bottle—it’s a narrative of terroir, tradition, and transformation. Santé!

Press Accolades:

Jeb Dunnuck, 95 Points:

"All old vine Grenache from a single parcel of sandy soils and aged 18 months in foudre, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Puy Rolland shows beautiful wild strawberry and assorted red fruits, fresh cut flowers, hints of rose petals, and white pepper. These carry to a medium-bodied, seamless, pure, graceful Châteauneuf du Pape that has ripe tannins, a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and outstanding length. This beauty will
shine over the coming 15 years as well. Drink 2025-2040."
