2020 SuperUco "Calcáreo" Cabernet Franc, Coluvio de Altamira (94 Points, Vinous Media)

Let’s journey to the high-elevation vineyards of Uco Valley, Argentina, where the Michelini Brothers craft exceptional single-varietal wines from biodynamic single sites, perched between 3,600 and 4,600 feet above sea level. This region is nothing short of divine for grape cultivation! The "SuperUco" project offers wines that rival Napa Mountain Cabs in quality, at a fraction of the price.

We’ve selected a 100% varietal Cabernet Franc and Malbec that have received consistent international press and are drinking exceptionally well with over two years of bottle age integration.

SuperUco is at the forefront of redefining Argentine wines, shattering the old stereotype of budget-friendly, simple, fruit-forward Malbecs on supermarket shelves. Instead, it showcases exquisitely transparent, site-specific wines that transport you to a unique and special place.

Adding to the magic, the vineyards are innovatively planted in concentric circles—an homage to nature's seamless curves. This design allows the grapes to ripen evenly from every angle, contributing to the wines’ distinct character. Combined with biodynamic farming and minimal-intervention winemaking, these wines shine as elegant, pure, and authentic expressions of their terroir.

We recommend grabbing both of these highly praised selections, as they complement each other beautifully. These wines have hit that “sweet spot”, with rich tertiary notes emerging after a few years of bottle age. They’re drinking wonderfully now, but are well integrated to cellar for a few more years. Viva Argentina!

94 Points, Vinous Media:

"The nose consists of ash, green pepper, blackcurrant and hints of sour cherry. Delivering full-bodied flavor in the mouth, with sour cherry especially prominent on the palate, it grows more vigorous and light-footed as it goes on with good freshness and a hint of chalk.
