The 2018 Viña Sastre Reserva is crafted by Viña Sastre, a renowned family-run winery located in La Horra, the heart of the Ribera del Duero region. The Sastre family has cultivated vines in this area for over four generations, with roots dating back to the early 20th century. Since establishing their own winery in 1992, Jesús Maria Sastre, the current winemaker and vineyard manager, has embraced both tradition and innovation, drawing on deep knowledge of the region’s terroir. The vineyards mainly consist of old-vine Tempranillo planted in the traditional goblet method, on hillside sites with sandy, calcareous soils, high altitude, and significant diurnal temperature variation. These factors contribute to the wines’ concentrated fruit, freshness, and structured minerality.

The 2018 vintage showcases Viña Sastre’s commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, practiced without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, encouraging natural balance and expression of terroir. The Reserva is aged in a blend of French and American oak barrels for around 18 months, allowing the wine to develop complex aromas of ripe red berries, spices, and earth, balanced by fresh acidity and refined tannins. The result is a powerful yet elegant wine that reflects Ribera del Duero’s character—intense fruit depth, structure, and aging potential, making it a benchmark for Spanish Reserva wines.
