Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny, "Bourg"

Since the Foucault brothers first begin being whispered about by top French Sommeliers back in the late 1980s and ’90s they’re unparalleled takes on the wines of Saumur have become some of the most collectable and sought after bottles in the pantheon of “in-the-know” unicorns. These expressions of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc are thrilling, age-worthy and profoundly complex. They are must haves for any serious French wine collection, and of course they are very limited.

The most powerful and prestigious wine in this famous estate's line up is "Bourg". A single cru of 80 year old vines growing on a thin layer of clay over pure, deep tuffeau (limestone chalk), produces a wine of seemingly infinite depth, richness, and complexity. This is a wine built to last a long time; we don't recommend popping a cork for at least 10 years, and 20 plus would be ideal. If you do though, decant for hours and serve it at 65 degrees in the best Bordeaux or Burgundy stem you have!
