Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny "Les Clos"

Since the Foucault brothers first begin being whispered about by top French Sommeliers back in the late 1980s and ’90s they’re unparalleled takes on the wines of Saumur have become some of the most collectable and sought after bottles in the pantheon of “in-the-know” unicorns. These expressions of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc are thrilling, age-worthy and profoundly complex. They are must haves for any serious French wine collection, and of course they are very limited.

"Les Clos" is a blend of three parcels of 50-70 year old vines. After natural fermentation in concrete tanks in the ancient, "living" cellars of Rougeard's home village of Chacé the wine is aged for for 18-24 months in neutral barrique. The most approachable of the estate's line up, this still requires a vigorous decant of 2-3 hours if you want to open it soon. Ideally this will rest in a cellar for another 5-10 years. Serve in good Bordeaux or Burgundy stems at 60-65 degrees.
