2016-chateau-meyney-saint-estephe
2016 Château Meyney, Saint-Estèphe

There may be no better introduction to serious Saint-Estèphe than Château Meyney. The estate occupies an exceptional position overlooking the Gironde, with a contiguous vineyard immediately beside Second Growth Château Montrose. Yet Meyney remains outside the 1855 Classification, creating one of those increasingly rare situations in Bordeaux where the pedigree of the terroir dramatically exceeds the price of the label.

The 2016 captures Saint-Estèphe in classic form. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the backbone, joined by Merlot and an unusually important contribution from Petit Verdot. Cassis, blackberry, graphite, cedar, tobacco, violet, and savory spice emerge from a dense, structured palate, with the appellation's characteristic tannins balanced by the freshness and precision of the exceptional 2016 vintage. Nearly ten years in bottle has begun to soften those edges without sacrificing the wine's distinctly northern Médoc character.

This is exactly why Meyney has become such a favorite among Bordeaux insiders. It delivers the structure, longevity, and unmistakable terroir signature of Saint-Estèphe without the classified-growth tariff. In a vintage as complete as 2016, that makes Meyney more than simply a value play. It is a reminder that some of Bordeaux's most compelling bottles still sit outside the hierarchy established in 1855.

Provenance Guarantee

This wine comes with an unimpeachable provenance:

Purchased Ex Chateau En Primeur in 2017

Released between June 2018 and March 2019

Stored at Dartess in Bordeaux

Transferred to London City Bond in February 2020

Kept in original packaging, undisturbed case

Impeccable Provenance

These wines were acquired through an approved Bordeaux négociant as futures in 2017.
